The great holiday St. Patrick’s day is upon us. The holiday that consists of rainbows, gold coins, the color green, and most importantly the power of pinching someone if they aren’t wearing green. Let’s see where it originated from and ask some Lively Falcons about Saint Patrick’s day.
This year St. Patrick’s day is on Monday, March 17th, 2025. Some people may ask where did the holiday come from? St. Patrick’s Day was originally made and celebrated in Ireland with religious services and feasts in honor of St. Patrick, one of Ireland’s patron saints a long time ago. Some people on the holiday do multiple things to celebrate the awesome Irish originated holiday.
Sheri Guess, a teacher of English for people who speak other languages knew about St. Patrick’s Day. “I have heard about St. Patrick’s day and I do celebrate it, my background is Irish and Scottish so I am deep into the culture,” said Guess.
When asked if she takes the holiday seriously, she said “My whole family celebrates it religiously with parties and I also have a friend group who celebrates with me too, but outside of that I don’t really know a lot about it because I do more at home than I do out.”
When asked if she knew the origins of the holiday, she was unsure. “I actually do not know about the origins of the holiday, and yes I have been pinched a lot of times because I refuse to wear green because it doesn’t look good on me,” joked Ms. Guess. “But also there’s a lot of imbibing going on during St. Patrick’s day and that’s a big part of Saint Patrick’s day,” said Guess. “I love St. Patrick’s day. It’s so fun and I have a good time with my family,” said Guess.
As for what people at Lively think, most students had heard of it. “Yes I have heard of Saint Patrick’s day. I bake green cupcakes,” said 7th grader Charlie Kreytak. “Yes I have heard of the holiday, and I wear all green all day,” said 7th grader Miguel Colchado.
I hope you guys have a great spring break, but also Happy St. Patrick’s day!
