On Monday, February the 24th, this year’s girls soccer A and B teams played their last game of the season, wrapping up their year with a game against Ann Richards. The game marked the end of what seemed to be a well-fought season, and although the girls won’t be playing on the field together that won’t stop the bonds they both strengthened and built throughout the season.
Throughout this season, Coach Adley and Coach Dominguez strategized using the 8 core techniques: juggling, dribbling, passing, ball control, heading, finishing, tackling, and goalkeeping, while trying to keep a defensive mindset and balancing opportunities to score goals. Compared to the previous girls’ soccer season, the co-coaches agreed that they really got their coaching abilities and strategies down this season, “We saw a lot of upside to our approach and felt very successful,” said Coach Dominguez.
There wasn’t much of a consensus on the girls favorite memories and games; there being a WIDE array of positive memories from the season. “My favorite game has to be Bailey… I mean it was my first game ever playing with the school, and I loved the weather… but yeah, I got to experience playing with my team.” Alexa Vera, an eighth grader who played multiple positions on A-Team said. On that same note, Coach Adley said, “My favorite A team game was against Bailey because the girls scored their first goal.” Another favorite game was Murchison, with students including Kelsey Duron, an eighth grade A-Team goalie, and Yaneilis Torres, an eighth grade defensive player on B-Team, calling it their favorite.
One thing that almost all the interviewed players could agree on, though, was their least favorite game: Ann Richards. As previously stated, it was the final game of the season and they unfortunately lost, but that didn’t seem to be the main source of distain for the game. Rather, it was the fact that the B-Teams game against Ann Richards was practically non-existent. For reasons likely involving the weather and the time scheduled for the game, the B-Teams game was cancelled; leaving the B-Team players without a final game to play. “I just feel like the B-Team should have had a chance to play against the other team.” Torres said. Although the worst game wasn’t fully unanimous, with a few players giving answers like: “My least favorite was Murchison because they destroyed us.”, which Jazzy Arze, a seventh grade Striker on B-Team, said. On the other hand, Coach Dominguez said, “Least favorite game was Kealing because it’s always tough losing to your rival school.”
Additionally, when asked to describe playing with their teammates, many players had similar responses. “New, but very exciting. The community that we had was very supportive, if any of us had trouble or we just kept doubting ourselves all of your teammates kept reassuring us letting us know that it’s just a game and that it’s ok to feel the way you do,” Alexa Vera, an eighth grade forward winger on A-team, said. “It was so fun, even if I messed up my friends would always be there to support me, they would help me with my mistakes, and everyone in the community was really friendly. We all got along,” Torres
added.
Overall, the girls’ soccer team was a success because of more than just the games, but because of the incredible experience that the girls had over the season. The friendships formed and memories made solidified the 2024/2025 girls soccer season as an incredible experience for all parties
