Guitar students at UIL.
No instrument is as iconic as the guitar. On April 14th, Lively’s Intermediate and Varsity guitar students participated in UIL. Both levels excelled in the competition and received the highest scores possible, an astonishing achievement from our guitar program, which we are all very proud of here at Lively.
Intermediate performed 3 pieces: Dark Eyes, Koi Under the Moon Bridge, Tadcaster Dance. “It felt good to perform at UIL, a little bit stressful but yeah, it was fun and I’m very happy with the results,” said Porfirio Ortega, an intermediate player.
Advanced guitar played: Sandias, La Cigarra and Moonflower (Landolt’s personal favorite). “It felt pretty crazy to compete. We all practiced a lot so I think our work paid off,” said 8th grader Scarlette Riggio, an advanced guitar player.
Other guitar students also gave us their comments on the experience, such as “It felt a lot like any other performance,” said 8th grader Jonah Butler. Butler also said “I feel really good about how it went.”
As the competition was coming up, Guitar director Caitlin Landolt said that “I feel that we’re pretty prepared and confident. I am really looking forward to it, it’s a great experience for the students” and “I am looking forward to moving onto new music, we’ve been working on our current pieces for a long time now”
Once we spoke with her after the competition, Landolt shared that “We did better than I thought and I’m very proud of everyone.” She also said “It was very stressful but I think it went really well.”
In conclusion, we should be very proud of our fantastic guitar program and its show stopping performance at UIL. I am looking forward to seeing what our guitar program has in store for the rest of the school year and beyond.
