As you know, the bell schedule has recently changed for better or for worse. These changes have been big adjustments for both students and teachers. And they’re not all that popular.
This year there are no more C days, Fridays alternate between A days and B days. This was due to requests by teachers. Many teachers think C days are difficult to plan around. Although not all teachers agree with this.
Ms. Sheri Guess, the new teacher ESL teacher at Lively, thinks we should have C days. “Going back and forth alternating between A and B to me just makes my brain hurt…this hour and a half long class period, I think is too long for middle schoolers. I think that 50 minutes max is what they can handle,” said Guess.
C days were popular among students. “The C days had a good mix of all classes and it’s the perfect time for a test,” said 8th grader Avery Knox-Broyles.
Lots of students agree, they dislike this year’s bell schedule. “I was used to the 1,3,5,7 A days and the 2,4,6,8 B days so I didn’t like it at first… switching from A to B every week is a little confusing,” said 8th grader Izzy Reed.
Fridays aren’t the only complaint about the bell schedule though, lots of students dislike the lunch periods.
6th graders Gael Castillo and Facundo Garcia think school should end at 12pm so students have more time to do homework and a longer lunch period. The lunch periods are currently 30 minutes long which they say is not enough time to go through the lunch line and eat.
Many 7th graders specifically dislike their lunch time which starts at 10:50am. “That is breakfast. Bro, I’m like never hungry during lunch,” said 7th grader Tallulah Redman.
The bell schedule was changed to make it easier for teachers, but in doing that, it’s now more difficult for students to remember what day it is and to be focused and not hungry throughout the day.
