Teacher Spotlight – Veronica Twining

At The Falcon Cry, we like to represent teachers who need praise for their hard work and dedication to Lively, and that’s why we decided that Mrs. Twining, an advanced math teacher, would be perfect for the spotlight.

Twining has worked at Lively for 14 years, starting in 2010.  For most of her years here she taught 7th grade math, but, this year, she changed to all grades in advanced math.

Twining mentioned that she never wanted to be a teacher, but that she was good in math and got involved with tutoring which lead to assistant teaching in college. She also found teaching challenging, so she wanted to pursuit it to get better.

Twining talked about the community at Lively and how diverse and remarkable our student body is. She went on to talk about how students keep her going and how she has pride in teaching at our school.

Twining mentioned some of the things she does out of school such as a mentoring program for teachers, pursuing state and nation awards, her time coaching track here at Lively, and her experience with the UIL academics. “Last year we got First place, so that was pretty exciting,” said Twining.

She talked about how she was proud of being an educator and talks about all the amazing things about our school such as clubs and programs.

“I have pride in my school. I have pride in the students I teach,” said Twining.

She talked about how the students are one of the best things about her job but she finds it easier to work with students over adults because they are friendly and “have a different lens of life.”

She went on to talk about the commitment it take to be a teacher.  “It’s a job you can’t just shut off,” said Twining.
