I interviewed Violet Sanchez, an 8th grader here at Lively Middle School, who won this month’s Fashion Spotlight and asked her a few questions about her style and opinions on winning this month, and these are her answers. 🙂
How do you feel about winning the fashion spotlight?
I feel like, woah, like I’m honored because I think there’s a lot of people at school with great style, and I’m just like woah, I didn’t really think people would vote for me.
Can you break down your style for me? What goes into planning your outfits and finding the accessories?
Mostly whatever I see online is mainly what inspires my outfits, and my friends as well because they have awesome styles. It also depends on the day because on A days I have P.E. and on B days I don’t have P.E. So on A days I wear shorts and like jorts and I think I try to make my outfit comfier so I can do pe and so that I don’t get yelled at and then on B days I do my more like stylish and more accessorized outfits. For my accessories, I try on all of them and I just see whichever I think fits best and looks best.
Where does your inspiration come from?
As I said before, I think a lot of it just comes through people I see on TikTok or also sometimes Pinterest, or my friends because they have immaculate style, and sometimes my head.
Where do you get most of your clothes from?
So I thrift a lot of my clothes, but I also go into my mom’s closet and she has a lot of clothes that she used to wear back when she was a youngster, and so a lot of times I wear those because they’re pretty cool.
Where do you get most of your accessories from?
So a few of them are from my friends because they made them for me, and then from my mom because she has cool accessories as well. The rest of the accessories I have are just ones that my mom has bought me over the years.
What’s one of your favorite things to wear?
Recently I’ve started to wear shorts with tights a lot and I think it’s pretty cute, also I like shirts with cute designs on them or when there’s a lot going on, but not too much, but like a lot going on. I like off-the-shoulder shirts as well, those are cute. Just things with patterns.
And lastly, what advice would you give to people who want to follow your fashion influence?
I think they should go thrifting because I found a lot of my clothes through thrifting. Also, most of the time, it’s not very expensive, so if you want to look stylish but don’t have a lot of money to spend, then thrifting is pretty cool. There are many thrift stores in Austin, so that’s great.
Anything else you’d like to add?
I think you should just wear whatever you want, you have a long life to live so be stylish with it because at the end of the day you shouldn’t care if other people judge you for what you wear because you just wanna express yourself freely while you can!
