“What is the Tennis Ladder?”
That is a consistent question here at Lively.
Answering questions such as “What is Tennis? or How does the Tennis Ladder work? or Who’s the coach?”
Some people don’t know the wonderful sport of tennis, let alone the Tennis Ladder here at Lively. Tennis is a sport that originates in the 12th–13th-century French handball game called “jeu de paume” and has been played since then and is still very popular till this day. The tennis ladder is an interactive game of tennis between students, staff, and teachers. It also helps for the students that want to play tennis in the spring to prepare for their tennis season.
The person who runs the tennis ladder is Mr. Norris who is the 7th grade Spanish teacher. The way the tennis ladder works is that students, teachers, and staff sign up to participate. The coaches will ask their level of skill then the coaches will pair people up with the equal amount of skill. Then they will play matches against one another in a battle. Then the person who won will be put in the rankings. The reason why Mr. Norris has this tennis ladder in place is because people who have not ever played tennis and want to play for Lively in the spring need time to learn. For that reason, Mr. Norris has the tennis ladder to give kids the chance to practice tennis.
Students think the Tennis Ladder is fun.
“I’d say it’s pretty fun, but I don’t really get to pick to play with anybody, I just play with a six grader named Navien and we play doubles and it’s really fun,” said 7th grader Kaiwah Suarez. “And one thing I have learned is that when you’re playing doubles you can use the alleyways,” said Suarez.
“I think it’s really fun and you get to meet a lot of people and you get to practice tennis and then you can get better and you can flex on your friends and it’s really fun to flex on your friends you also get to go against teachers so it feels good to play tennis against people you know and you get to meet new people and it’s really fun and a learning experience so yeah,” said 7th grader James Grier.
“In the tennis ladder what you do is essentially you just play tennis with people, first you do singles and then we do doubles and you can do it against teachers or students and I play with a couple kids from six grade and I don’t know their names and I have played with Julien Stelly and Kaiwah Suarez,” said Grier.
Overall if you are athletic and have good eye coordination you should definitely give tennis a try. Especially the tennis ladder. Contact Mr. Norris in room 107 for more information on the Tennis Ladder.
