Lively held “Evening of Wonder,” where fifth graders from around Austin can come and see what Lively Middle School has to offer. The event was held on Friday, December 6th. The event included performances from our Band, Orchestra, and Guitar classes as well as demonstrations from Mock Trial and Model UN.
From 5:30 to 6:00 the band was playing in front of the school, and from 5:30 to 6:30 orchestra was playing in the lobby, guitar was playing in the library and there were mock trial and model UN demonstrations in room 104 and 200. “It was pretty fun but we were just playing for each other pretty much the whole time,” said 8th grade guitarist Jonah Butler.
In the big gym we had a large array of stands showcasing different aspects of our school. We had a dual language stand, an orchestra stand, a band stand, a journalism stand and more. “I had a good time being able to be with people I like and help others explore new things that they might want to do when they’re older,” said 8th grade orchestra student Alivia Wadkins. Plenty of other students share similar sentiments, enjoying their time running the stands.
There were also plenty of classrooms open for touring including Ms. Perez’s classroom which had some of her students’ projects on the revolutionary war. Mr. Addingtons classroom was also open and he was talking to students and the other English teachers. “It was nice having all the English teachers in one room talking about what makes the English program special,” says Addington.
Overall, this event went off without a hitch. All our performances were spectacular and there were lots of fifth graders who seemed to really enjoy the programs we offered.
