After spring break Lively will be adopting a new Falcon bucks system. This new system will change the way Falcon bucks are stored and given. I tried to learn all I could about how this system will work so I can share it to all Lively Falcons.
I originally knew nothing about this new system called “Hero” but after learning, it seems like an interesting concept. I went to our school Assistant Principal, Ms. Ferreira, and asked for general information on Hero. “We are transferring the Falcon bucks to a digital system. We’re going to use an app that is called Hero. Maybe you’ve seen some of your teachers giving you points on it. It’s practical because you, as a student, can have an app that we are going to teach you guys how to download, and you’ll be able to see on the app how many points you have so you can keep track. Then when you go to the Falcon store you won’t need to carry around papers anymore and our PTA who takes care of the store can subtract points, so it’s just a digital system that makes everything easier. It also has the advantage of you not being able to lose your points, it is not a physical item anymore so it keeps it secure. It’s also nice for teachers because I can do it through the app too and I don’t have to worry about having Falcon bucks myself,” said Ferreira.
I think this new Hero system will work a lot better than the old one and I’m personally looking forward to it. But I also wanted to know what the opinions of some of our teachers are.
“It makes it easier for me because I don’t actually have to hand you something, I just have to remember to have that tally system open on my laptop. It’s also kind of exciting because it reminds me of Harry Potter, how they have the class points on display and that’s always been a dream of mine in the classroom, but I’m still working out how I can make that function. I didn’t like the old system much because of the ease that some students had with stealing Falcon bucks, and just having a pocket full of them. It was also interesting to me the different ways teachers would hand out Falcon bucks where some would give one Falcon buck per class and some would give one to every kid in a class, so it wasn’t a very even system,” said ELAR teacher Sean Addington.
“I do think it’s better because you don’t have to deal with the physical Falcon bucks or keep track of them, especially students because they could lose them. But sometimes it’s easier to just hand out paper instead of remembering to do it on your computer because I might see a kid doing well and think ‘oh, I should give them a Falcon buck’ but not be able to stop what I’m doing at the moment, and then I’ll forget to give them one,” said guitar teacher Caitlin Landolt.
This new system seems like a good idea and I think it will be a great upgrade to our school, but make sure to remind teachers it exists.
