A fierce rematch in the 59th edition of the Super Bowl led to the Philadelphia Eagles blowing away the Kansas City Chiefs three-peat chances, having the Eagles lifting the Lombardi trophy for the second ever time. The game ended in a shocking blow-out win for Philadelphia as the green confetti fell in the re-match it sunk in that the Eagles won, with a final score of 40 – 22. Jalen Hurts won Super Bowl MVP, which was big for him since for the longest time he has been criticized. From the start of the game, and onwards the Philadelphia Eagles dominated.
These were the same teams from Super Bowl LVII that took place just two years ago. Although the Chiefs had scored later, don’t let the final score deceive you from the game being a huge win especially since the Chiefs were down 34 – 0 in the 3rd quarter of the Super Bowl. This came as a surprise to me, and others especially since the Kansas City Chiefs were known for competing in close games. Especially this season Kansas City had so many close games, but this time the Eagles got their revenge and had a great combination of defensive, and offensive performances by everyone to win the big game.
Super Bowl LIX took place in the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on February 9th, 2025 for the 59th Super Bowl as said earlier. The game was the 11th overall Super Bowl hosted in New Orleans. A fun fact is that New Orleans was supposed to host Super Bowl LVIII. But this changed because of the expansion of games in the NFL in 2021. With the extra games, the Super Bowl would happen later in February causing a conflict with Mardi Gras for last year’s Super Bowl. So Super Bowl LVIII was hosted in Las Vegas and New Orleans was switched to host Super Bowl LIX.
I was rooting for the Philadelphia Eagles myself, and was surprised by the way in which the game happened. Most students, and teachers at Lively seemed to mainly be neutral or slightly lean towards preferring the Eagles. Also, the majority of people found it surprising that the Eagles won in the way they did. One student said “I was quite surprised that Philadelphia won because they were the underdogs. But I was also happy because it’s nice to see the underdogs win,” said Vivien O’Hair. Another student said, “My family is from Kansas so most of my extended family was rooting for the Chiefs. I thought the sparkly outfit that Travis Kelce was wearing leaving the Super Bowl was funny,” said Tallulah Redman. One teacher said, “I thought Philly would win but not in a blowout,” said Austin Herber. Another teacher said, “Philadelphia played a better game and totally deserved the win,” said Sheri Guess who was rooting for the Chiefs.
In total the game wasn’t the most competitive game, but it still showed how defenses win championships as the saying goes.
