Darby Stillwell was nominated for a teacher spotlight by 6th grader Enzo Cullen. “She is best science teacher I ever had and she’s a good teacher,” said Cullen.
Stillwell’s students seem to like her very much. “She is nice, helpful and kind,” said 6th grader Austin Hinkle.
I used to be one of her students and I had the opportunity to interview her recently to learn more about her.
What is your name and your position at lively?
Ms. Stillwell and science teacher for 6th grade
How did you decide to teach 6th grade (versus other grades)?
I actually was an elementary major in college. So, I can teach pre-k through 6th. I decided to try 6th once I graduated because it seemed interesting.
How long have you been teaching?
Seven years.
Did you teach somewhere else before Lively or have all 7 years been at Lively?
All 7 years have been at Lively. Technically, my first year here, it was still Fulmore though!
What made you decide to be a teacher?
My Mom was a teacher so I was always around it.
What subject do you teach?
Science
What made you want to teach science?
I loved science growing up, so teaching it seemed fitting!
What do you love about Lively?
The mix of kids.
Do you sponsor any clubs,teams or special groups at lively middle school ?
I sponsor the UT stem club.
How do you show your school spirit?
I show my school spirit by being a volleyball coach.
What’s the best/worst thing about being a teacher?
The best thing is seeing kids grow. The worst is how much energy it takes away from you.
In which other teacher’s class would you like to enroll, even for a day and why?
Lopez because I wanna be in environment science.
