On April 4th, Lively held a pep rally to prepare students for the upcoming STAAR tests. It was filled with STAAR-themed games, as well as your usual pep rally activities, including tug of war, dance performances, and more! Not to mention what was probably one of the most intense games of musical chairs this school has ever seen.
The dance team worked with the band’s symphonic and wind ensemble to open the pep rally by performing our tried-and-true fight song. “I generally don’t enjoy pep rallies due to their volume, but performing in front of the whole school is a very fun experience,” said Zella Pryor, a dancer on the Dazzlers dance team.
Meanwhile, wind ensemble member and Saxophone player Cam Sanchez said that “It was super fun and exciting to play at the pep rally”. She said that her favorite part was “watching all of the performances,” and I cannot agree more on something. Everyone who performed was so talented and deserves so much love for their hard work and dedication.
This pep rally had some spice brought into it by holding an intense game of musical chairs with multiple students. In the end, the last man sitting was Jayden Jones, who was honestly expecting to be chosen as a contestant due to the dozens of people pointing at him. He also said he became more confident as the game was closer to ending, saying, “When I was the last few people, I was like ‘I’m probably gonna win this.’” Although he seemed to expect the outcome of the game, he still described winning as good because “It was in front of the whole school, so it was pretty cool to win in front of everyone.”
Ms. Gang, theatre director and pep rally coordinator, shared that “The idea for the pep rally was to hype the students up for the upcoming tests and just have a fun STAAR-themed event”. She also said that “I really enjoyed it, there was a lot of involvement from everyone, so it made for a really fun pep rally.” She is the reason this pep rally was so successful, and I would like to thank her for the hard work and creativity she put into this one. She definitely eased the tension of STAAR testing, giving us time to relax and take a break from all the studying.
Overall, this was one of the most exciting pep rallies we’ve had in a while. One that got the crowd riled up and will be talked about for a while. Hopefully, more memorable and engaging events like these will happen more often, and we can introduce more engaging pep rallies into this community thanks to Gang.
