I interviewed the new nurse at Lively. Nurse Robyn is an energetic and interesting person. The more I talked with her the more I was intrigued by her. She has a long medical history with childbirth and labor, and has many fascinating hobbies. Read this so the next time you have a headache or your stomach hurts you will know who is taking care of you.
What is your name and position at Lively?
My first name is Robyn and my last name is Polanco and I’m the nurse at Lively.
What degrees or certifications do you hold and how did you get them?
I have a bachelor’s degree in science and nursing.
You’re new to Lively, what’s your history in nursing?
For the last 12 years I worked in labor and delivery and I helped in surgeries on babies while the moms were still pregnant.
What led you to Lively?
When I applied I had different choices but they told me lively was a magnet school and I went to a magnet school so I wanted to do the same.
What do you love about Lively so far and why?
I really enjoy being a school nurse, I really enjoy seeing and meeting the students everyday. I learn something new from the students everyday.
What made you decide to be a nurse?
I wanted to be a science teacher and I started going through my classes and wanted to do more with science and wanted to help people so I was able to combine that.
What inspires you and what do you do to inspire others?
I feel like the world we live in is kind of crazy and silly and I’m the oldest sibling and I had to navigate the world on my own and I want to help other people with that.
What’s the best or worst thing about being a nurse?
The best thing is also the worst thing, everyone comes to you for help and I love helping people but sometimes people come in with things I don’t know.
If you could be in any class at Lively what would it be?
I actually really like Greek mythology and I heard you had a class called myths and monsters.
How do you show your school spirit?
I try to wear as much Lively merch as possible.
What would students at Lively be surprised to find out about you?
I have a whole sleeve of tattoos.
What is your dream vacation and why?
I have a hobby, I like looking at the stars and I have a telescope so I would like to go somewhere where I can see the stars with no light pollution.
Who is the funniest person you know and why?
The funniest person I know would probably be my sister, when my sister is around she does great impressions and they are really funny.
If you could have any other job what would it be and why?
Honestly I would own a plant nursery and I would just grow plants in a green house and sell them.
Did you have a favorite subject in school and why do you like it?
Chemistry and biology, because they explain the things around us and I just think things are just so fascinating.
Who is your medical role model and what did they do that interests you most?
I worked with a doctor and not only was he a good doctor but he had the highest level of integrity I have ever seen anybody have and he never broke his integrity even when he almost lost his job and after I worked with him it changed how I saw things.
Do you have any hobbies?
I grow a lot of plants and I polish and tumble rocks, and I do art too.
Where do you see yourself in ten years?
I’d like to stay working as a school nurse but in ten years I would like at some point to take another step in my career and learn more about school nursing.
What motivated you to be in the medical field and why?
I just think it’s cool, everything around you is breaking and I like being able to stand up and be brave.
What is one tip that you would give the students at Lively?
The tip I would give is that things are going to seem really hard and difficult and final but there is always another side of that and no matter how hard it is you’ll get through it.
