Lately, at Lively, there have been some issues concerning staff locking student restrooms. Students have found this to be quite annoying as they have to walk down 1 or 2 levels of the building just to use the restroom and during the 5-minute passing period when students are expected to use the restroom, but they are all locked. Some students seem to think that they are being locked up for cleaning but 7th grader June Ligon said “I think the restrooms are being locked because people vape in them.” 7th grader Eliza Burkhart said “I think the restrooms are being locked because people skip in them.”
“I think the restrooms are being locked cause of admin,” said 7th grader Zella Pryor. So I talked to assistant principal Jessica Jordan.
“All of the restrooms are being locked because we don’t have enough admin to watch all of them but the first floor should be open,” said Jordan.
It has made a real stir because students are upset that they are locking bathrooms for a lot of the day and not just for tardy sweeps or other points in time when they need to be locked. “That doesn’t mean that they need to lock the bathrooms 24/7. that just defeats the whole purpose of having bathrooms in the first place,” said Burkhart. “I go up to the third floor, and the bathroom is locked so I have to go all the way down to the first floor and there’s usually a line…” said Ligon.
There are also enormous lines due to the lack of restrooms. “Why do they have to lock all the restrooms but the first floor one because that means 3 floors and portables share two restrooms,” said Pryor. “There’s a line because it’s the only restroom and it’s making me late,” said Ligon.
All in all, everyone seems to be pretty upset over the locked restrooms or just confused. everyone just wants answers.

Good reporting on the Locked Bathrooms Quinn. Most parents don’t have any idea what’s happening at school from their kids point of view, and these articles help keep us informed.
