Last week students filled out choice sheets. But as 7th grader Jack Culbertson puts it “It was kinda lack luster and y’know missing a few options.” Culbertson also believes that the interface was quite clunky and inefficient.
Which is exactly what I plan to cover. First as Lively Students know, you have to fill out the paper sheets then you have to do the digital sheet then you have to finally fill out the final sheet. But it’s even more of a challenge for the counselors themselves.
Michelle Garcia, one of Lively’s counselors, describes it as “An act of god,” that classes can be assigned at all for the next year. Firstly they must get the information from the frontline form and since not everyone is going to be there on that day they have to go around and make those who were absent fill out the form. Then they must assign all students to their classes but if the student is not qualified to their elective then they have to shuffle it around and repeat until every student is in all their core classes as well as their electives.
And that is what our amazing counselors have to go through to get our schedules done. So if next year you are missing only one class, be grateful it could’ve been a lot worse. Also don’t be surprised if you don’t get AVID, art or forensic science as they are the most frequently requested classes according to Garcia.
