As you might have heard, Lively’s football team just started. This year, we have 2 football teams, an 8th-grade team, and a 7th-grade team, they are representing the school by playing multiple games throughout the season, including the homecoming game they played against Paredes.
Lively’s football players have strong opinions on what makes a good football player. “I think the mindset, their skill, and, how much work they put in is what makes a good player,” said 8th grade quarterback Luca Vallejo. Vallejo’s favorite part about football is “how I get to throw the ball to my teammates.”
Lively’s players have past experience. “I have always loved the game and I have been playing flag football since I was 8,” said 8th grade wide-receiver Liam Bodle.
The relationship between coaches and players often shapes team success. “Just seeing my boys, or just kids in general go from being a novice to being more of an extraordinaire,” said 8th grade coach and Lively PE teacher, Dominick Barnhart. “I think they all are very different but have a great mind for the game and are amazing coaches,” said Bodle.
“This is the beginning of my 27th year (at Lively) and out of those 27 I have coached football for 26,” said 7th grade coach Johnny Galan, who is also a Law teacher at Lively. “My favorite part is gameday, I like going out on the football field and having the boys start a season or game and it’s just an amazing feeling to get them out there,” said Galan.
While our football team has yet to win a game this year, our football players are working hard to represent our school. So if you see a student wearing a black or white jersey, congratulate them for being a part of the team.
