The year is ending soon and we are entering a season filled with traditions and celebrations. Our school is filled with interesting people with many different religions and cultures so I went around and asked students from every grade to see their unique traditions/celebrations.
What are some Holidays or traditions you and your family celebrate around this time of year?
“My tradition is to spend time with family and friends and stay up all night on new year’s eve.”- 8th grader Layla Ramirez.
“instead of a star on the top of the tree we put ‘Santa mouse’ which is a bendable stuffed elf that used to go on my dead dogs back on christmas, we also open one present on christmas eve, then the rest on christmas morning”- 8th grader Jayus F-L.
“Since me, my parents, and my sister are the only ones that live here in Austin, we always travel to Loredo and either we look around the landscapes/ landmarks there, or we would go to Houston, go to the beach, and have a good time. Everyday is kinda a surprise on what were doing.”-7th grader Enriquè pailla
“A tradition I do with my family around this time of year is in January we do Rosca De Reyes where we bake this large bread that has three little baby jesus’s inside. Then we cut it open and whoever gets one gets a prize.” And just what would the prize be? “Usually for girls we would get some hair tools, and for boys they would get toy cars.”- 6th graders Sofia Castillo-Tovar and Adella Verado
