Terry Jennings is an advanced math teacher at Lively who also coaches track, basketball and sponsors the Lively Chapter of NJHS (National Junior Honor Society). Jennings tells us what it’s like being a math teacher and how he does it.
Jennings teaches Algebra and Geometry and has taught all of his 10 years at Lively Middle School.
Before becoming a teacher, Jennings worked in IT for the city of Austin and became a teacher due to that job not being fulfilling enough. Jennings decided to teach math because he always loved the subject and there was a lack of math teachers.
After all his years at Lively, you would wonder what he enjoys about it? He said he likes the tradition of coming from the oldest school and coming from deep history makes him proud.
Outside of teaching math, Jennings has coached and hosted many clubs and sports for Lively, including Football, Basketball, Track, and being the NJHS sponsor. With all that support from Jennings toward Lively, he has to have pride in them. He shows his pride in being at games and practices and wearing Lively colors and shirts.
He also enjoys teaching because of the students and his fellow teachers.
“He is a very good teacher and even thought this is his first year teaching geometry, he has done a very good job of teaching,” said 8th grader Isaac Ruttan. Ruttan is inspired by the dedication that it takes for Jennings to be a teacher and he believes that Jennings is improving the world we live in.
