Every year, Lively’s Model UN program puts on a conference on our campus to celebrate the end of the year in Model UN. But how does it run? Who can go? What even is Model UN? This article answers all those questions and more, including interviews from coordinators and chairs, to interviews from people interested in the conference.
When I interviewed Andres Nava, the Model UN teacher and the coordinator for the LivMUN conference, He said “ This LivMUN is going to be different then the last because we are very prepared for it and planned it out since the beginning of this semester ” and he went on to say “Model UN in general is an opportunity for students to learn and really role play what the united nations does.”
When I interviewed 8th grader Ilex Chang, a coordinator for LivMUN and a 1st year Model UN student, she said “To plan LivMUN, we formed a council early in the year and started discussing the logistics like how many committees and which committees ” and she went on to say “We put on LivMUN because its a good way for 6th graders or 7th graders to get to know Model UN and its a good option for people who are already in it.”
When I interviewed 8th grader Zacarias Garza, a coordinator for LivMUN and a 2nd year Model UN student, he said “Model UN is model united nations where we talk about global issues and ways to solve them…We put on LivMUN to get students at this school interested in model UN.”
When I interviewed 7th grader Aidan Maxwell, a first-year model UN student and a co-chair for LivMUN, he said, “I am excited to be co-chair because I think it’s great. I’ve always wanted to do it ever since I joined Model UN, and I’m really excited about doing it.” He went on to say, “I am doing LIVMUN because it’s a great opportunity, and I’m really excited to have this opportunity.”
When I interviewed 7th grader Zachary Van Orden, a first-year MUN student and a co-chair for Livmun, he said, “I chose MUN because I’m a big geography nerd, and it’s a fun way to express that information.” He went on to say, “I am excited to be co-chair because it will allow me to have a different experience of Model UN, and it seems like it will be a fun and educational experience.”
When I interviewed 8th grader Isaac Ruttan, a 1st year model UN student and a student interested in LivMUN, he said “I think LIVMUN is going to be a fun experience based on the past conferences I’ve been to.” and he went on to say “I joined Model UN because I heard really good things about it and its a good experience.”
When I interviewed 8th grader June Ligon, a 1st year model UN student and a student interested in LivMUN, she said “I am going to LivMUN cause its gonna be very fun.” Ligon went on to say “I chose Model UN because it seemed like a good thing to learn about and experience and it also helps with public speaking.”
All in all, LivMUN took a lot of planning and partnership to happen. LivMUN, happening on May 10 at Lively, is also (as of writing this article) still available for sign up, so if your interested, email or talk to Mr. Nava.
