Lively Students went to University of Texas this past week for an AVID field trip. Students got the chance to tour UT and see what they have to offer for students going to college.
One of the things that UT offered was flexibility. “I was surprised that you could choose what days you come and what semester because some kids don’t come first semester while some do come first semester. That’s really cool,” said 7th grader Nathan Taveras.
Technology was also a selling point at UT. “While I was touring UT I found many technologies I had never seen before and I was in awe to see how advanced the technology was,” said 7th grader Vicente Martinez-Rivera.
The campus overall was a big plus. “When I was walking around the campus, I was surprised to see that there were buildings that were very big and that they each had over 20 classrooms in just one building. I also loved how the dorm rooms have their own snack and hangout area on the first floor,” said Martinez-Rivera.
Students on the field trip also got to hear a lecture on Engineering. “By the end of the lecture Oliver was taught about building and engineering he said it was pretty boring just sitting down most of the time but most times he did enjoy it,” said 7th grader Oliver Travis.
Lively students in the AVID program get help with being taught more about college when they go and it teaches students how to get ready for the real world when they are graduating from college.
