Around a week ago, The Falcon Cry staff talked about who to honor as our first Spotlight Teacher, someone who we could shout out before anyone else as an exemplary instance of the type of staff member we appreciate. We threw out options of teachers who showed different values that reflect the falcon spirit, respectfulness, humor, empathy, work ethic, passion, responsibility, and eventually landed on one teacher who reflected all those qualities and more, the perfect first spotlight teacher, Ms. Everett.
Ms. Everett is the journalism teacher here at Lively, and this is her second year at Lively and teaching in general. She teaches photojournalism, a course on photography, Newspaper, a class that produces the school’s newspaper that you’re reading right now, and Yearbook, a class that produces the yearbook at the end of the year. Ms. Everett obviously has her hands full, with her normal classes, two production classes, and an almost always open room if a student ever needs to talk, ask a question, or feel supported by going to any school games or activities, but she still manages to get her work done, and well, making what is said to be one of the best yearbooks ever last year.
At least according to Ms. Gang, Lively’s theater teacher and a friend of Ms. Everett. Ms. Gang had high praise for Ms. Everett, describing her as passionate, talented, and among other things, an “amazing teacher and friend,” who has personally inspired her. Ms. Gang isn’t the only teacher who has high praise for Ms. Everett, with many teachers sharing her perspective.
But what do Ms. Everett’s students think about her? Well based on what you’ve heard so far it might surprise you… but probably not. Ms. Everett’s students have roaring reviews about her, calling her generous, kind, bubbly, and “an overall amazing teacher.” Addyson Gaither, another eighth grader who took Ms. Everett’s class in photojournalism her seventh grade year, shares a similar sentiment saying that Ms. Everett’s class and personality made her “see photography in a new light.”
Overall, Ms. Everett is an accomplished teacher who still has bucket loads of promise to improve the journalism department and Lively overall.
