Santiago Casiano, the new 7th grade TX-Geo and has an amazing background. He has worked in the education business for about 10 years. He is on the 3rd floor. He is a nice friendly teacher who loves all his students. He is excited to teach at Lively Middle School and I am so happy I got the privilege to talk to this awesome person.
Talk about your education. What degrees or certificates do you hold?
So I graduated from the University of Texas. I have a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a minor education so pretty much applies in psychology and I graduated in 2010 in Austin, Texas.
What is your history in teaching?
So this is going to be my tenth year teaching kinda crazy though. This will be my second year teaching Texas History its been a lot of fun. I used to teach Reading and Writing for 7 and teaching Science for 1.
What led you to Lively?
I am really excited to be in Austin. Man, this school is in the heart of the city. I like that this school has good mixture of students, its nice to see students who don’t look like me, because I am from an area where everyone looked the same so its nice to be around a nice melting pot of kiddos.
What do you love about Lively so far?
I like that everyone helps each other and seems to work hard like everyone is trying to get better. So that’s really cool to be a part of.
What made you decide to be a teacher?
I remember when I was growing up even now that I am 37 years old I can still remember what they said and I liked and appreciated that they took the time to talk to me and got to know me and that impacted my life so I figured it’s my turn to do that for someone else.
Why do you teach what you teach?
Before I was a teacher I used to work at the capital right so I had a big passion for how laws are made in Texas so that naturally lines up with texas history I also think its very important to know where your from and the history about the area you live in and since we all live in Texas. I am a big Texas History fan.
What inspires you?
Mamba mentality man, Kobe Bryant, you got to get better you need to get better every day. As long as I get better every day it keeps me inspired so that mindset keeps me inspired.
What’s the worst/ best thing about being a teacher?
The worst thing is you can’t go to the restroom whenever you need to go like I have to wait. Right like I have to wait until the end of the day or till lunch time, that’s the worst part dude. That’s the worst part, and the best part is being able to talk to the kids and like talking to you guys and seeing what yall are up to, and things that you like and hearing y’all’s feedback.
If you could enroll in another teacher’s class at Lively to learn from them, what class would you take and why?
I would enroll in doctor’s Perez class. She dose 8th grade wargeography world history and I would definitely like to be in her class because she seems to have a thought out process of why she does things and I like doing things. I like knowing why we do things and I want my kids to know why we do things so it seems she does a really good job doing that.
What’s your favorite period of the day? If not, what’s your favorite time period?
My favorite period is…..to be honest I like all my class periods because we have our windows in our room so all day long it feels like the day is like brand new, and I get to see like the city and all the kiddos are pretty cool so I would say because we have a awesome view, all classes are cool and it’s fun being in this classroom all the time.
What’s going to be your favorite class project?
I think my favorite project just because I have a pretty big passion for it its like the Alamo. So whenever we start talking about the Alamo and start building like diagrams like that hopefully we actually building the actual Alamo thats gonna be awesome. Because they will be very creative.
What’s your favorite food?
Favorite food, dude without a question street tacos from Mexico. Street tacos from Mexico.
Do you like where your classroom is located?
Yeah, it’s the best dude. It’s the best classroom of all the school man with the best view.
What makes your class special?
Alright what I think makes my class is the kinda deal I make with all my kids right is like the class who is the best and keeps up with all there work at the end of the day we will throw a big party so it’s literally that party in that dynamic of hey I will get you whatever you want and really mean it and getting like crazy food, that will probably the best part. Its all about is if you work hard you will be rewarded at the end. In this case it would be some food that Mr. C will hook you up with.
