Ms. Havelka is the new Dance teacher/Dance Team Director for Lively Middle School. She loves teaching dance, is very passionate about it, and is loving Lively so far. She hopes to teach as long as she can and is excited to see her students succeed more throughout the year. Last Wednesday, I had the opportunity to interview her and learn a little more about her and her career.
What’s your name and position at Lively?
Ms. Havelka. Dance teacher and Dance Team Director.
Talk about your education. What degrees or certifications do you hold?
I graduated from Texas State University with a B.F.A in dance education and I have a minor in technical theatre.
You’re new to Lively. What’s your history in teaching?
I have no history in teaching I am a first-year teacher I did student teaching at Thomas Jefferson High School.
What led you to Lively?
I went to an AISD career fair and came across the Lively Middle School booth saying they were in search of a dance teacher, I applied and visited the school and after visiting the school I loved the atmosphere and enjoyed the people there and something about the school just felt right.
What do you love about Lively so far?
I love seeing all the different students’ talents and skills and how we are a very diverse campus that offers many different opportunities.
What made you decide to be a teacher?
In college, I was part of a dance outreach program where I worked with students and taught them dance…and seeing the joy on the students faces from learning something new and being interested in dance and it kind of made me want to just do this for the for the rest of my life, I have loved seeing the inspiration of young dancers.
Why do you teach what you teach?
I love to dance and I love to share my passion for dance.
What inspires you?
I’m inspired by the students and their drive to learn inspires me to teach them.
What’s the best/worst thing about being a teacher?
Best: I’d say seeing your students succeed and form connections is definitely the best part.
Worse: The worst thing is having to say goodbye to students that you have because you form a connection and then you never know if you’ll see them again.
If you could enroll in another teacher’s class at Lively to learn from them, what class would you take and why?
Ms. Gangs theatre class because it seems like she has a lot of fun in her class and it doesnt feel like I’m at school. I’m just having fun with my friends.

Forest green
Whats your favorite movie/show?
I love the Harry Potter series and my favorite series is H2O.
What are your Hobbies/interests?
I love dancing, hanging out with friends, and playing video games.
How long do you hope to teach for?
As long as I can!
